D. Greg Denton

Within these pages you will find a small sampling of the brilliant artwork of DC artist, poet and writer D. Greg Denton, represented in Washington by the Fraser Gallery.

According to Denton, he considers himself to be "primarily a figurative painter. Whether working in color or strictly black and white, I draw on my background and life experiences in order to paint the sensuous figures that I love. The paintings have a story to tell and my subjects cause the viewer to ponder just what they have to "say". But I leave it up to the individual to discover whatever that might be."

D. Greg Denton was born in Austin, Texas and has led an astounding life of self-discovery.

A 1975 visit to France made quite an impression and subsequently Denton was awarded a full tuition scholarship to the Art Institute of Pittsburgh on the same year that he graduated from High School in Northern Virginia. According to him, "he came out" while living in Pittsburgh. In 1984 he visited Brazil and was so moved by the contrast between the incredible beauty and the extreme poverty that he felt called to devote his life to the service of God and entered the Franciscan Monastery in Northeast Washington the next year.

While a Friar, he was allowed to attend the Catholic University of America in order to pursue an art degree. He also started restoring the artwork in the shrines and catacombs there. He left his Franciscan family in 1989 to follow his dream of being an artist.

Greg Denton lives with Denny, his partner of almost ten years, in Northern Virginia and his artwork is available via the Fraser Gallery. Please contact us for more information on available artwork, prices and dimensions. Send us an email or call the gallery at (202) 298-6450.
