Tate is widely recognized as a pioneer of mixed media sculpture in this region. His work continues to push the boundaries of contemporary sculpture by incorporating narrative and conceptual ideas with technique and craftsmanship. His most recent body of work incorporates new media, such as video, as well as found objects, ceramic, concrete, and silver plating.
Tate’s work, which has been acquired for the permanent collections of several museums in addition to the Smithsonian’s Renwick Gallery, the National Institutes of Health and Vanderbilt University Medical Center collections, was recently awarded the Grand Prize in “Art Interview Magazine’s 7th International Artist Competition.” In 2007, Tate will make his European debut with an exhibition at Gallery Twenty-Four in Berlin, Germany.
